An FIR under SC and ST Act has been registered by the police against an MCD engineer on a complaint by Delhi social welfare minister Sandeep Kumar, leading to a fresh tussle between AAP and the BJP-ruled civic body.

The FIR against North MCD executive engineer Kapil Gupta was filed under SC and ST Act(Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, at the Sultanpuri police station in Outer Delhi on the complaint by the minister on August 6.

Retaliating to allegations of AAP government’s minister against its engineer, the BJP-ruled North MCD house meeting on Monday authorised the municipal commissioner to file an FIR against Kumar for his alleged “misbehaviour” with the civic body official.

In his complaint, Mr Kumar has accused the executive engineer of using “casteist word” against him and mentioning Dr Ambedkar in a “derogatory” manner, during an inspection of sanitation condition at H Block of Sultanpuri on July 27.

Mr Kumar said in his complaint that when he sought reply from Mr Gupta on poor sanitation in the area, he allegedly used “objectionable word” against sanitation staff and when he objected to his language saying that he himself belonged to Valmiki caste, the accused tried to manhandle him.
