An ex-serviceman, along with his daughter and wife, allegedly entered into a suicide pact following the death of his young son who was pursuing MBBS in Russia. The student had ended his life last month.

Bhagwan Das (48), his daughter Sarita (20) and wife Sharda (48) consumed poison at their house at Khera Dabar in the Jafarpur Kalan area. Although the exact reason is yet to be ascertained, a seven-page suicide note has been found. The police said that the family had committed suicide by consuming an insecticide.

The incident came to light on Friday morning around 7.16 am when the bodies of Bhagwan Das, his daughter Sarita and wife Sharda were found unconscious. Das and Sarita we-re pronounced dead when rushed to Rao Tula Ram Hospital, while Sharda died during treatment. According to the suicide note allegedly written by Bhagwan Das, his son Kuldeep wanted to take admission in a MBBS college in 2014 and to get the admission, a few people known to Bhagwan Das took Rs 30 lakh cash and a demand draft of Rs 5 lakh as bribe. But till 2015, they didn’t helped Kuldeep secure an admission in any of the medical colleges.

In their suicide letter, they had stated that they were taking the extreme step because of losing their son and also due to the pressure of Rs 30 lakh they had given to two person, Alok and Naseem, which the duo had failed to return despite repeated assurances.

The police did not clarify as to why such an amount was paid to the two. A police official, narrating the incident, said Kuldeep, who was in his first year, had returned to India a fortnight ago and consumed poison. “We suspect he had committed suicide because he was not fairing well... He might ha-ve also taken the extreme step because he thought a lot of money was wasted on him,” said the official.

“We have initiated an inquiry under Section 174 of thr CRPC and are also in search of the two persons,” said the official.
