Exorcist arrested for raping woman

A woman was allegedly raped by an exorcist, who she had approached for help after finding out that her husband was invol-ved in an extramarital affair. The exorcist, identified as 50-year-old Soha-ib Alam, was arrested on Tuesday after the woman complained to the police.

The victim lives with her husband in West Delhi’s Mianwali Nagar and she recently learnt of her husband’s relations with another woman.

“The victim discussed the situation with her sister-in-law. She was advised to seek the help of any astrologer or witchcraft,” said Pushpendra Kumar, DCP (West).

She narrowed her sear-ch to Alam, an exorcist based in nearby Jwalapu-ri. The victim and her sister-in-law visited him on Sunday. Alam took Rs 2,500 as consultation fee and asked her to visit him alone the next day. She went back the next day, and was told that he would perform an “exercise” to solve the problem.

On the pretext of the exercise, Alam allegedly began touching the woman inappropriately, causing her to raise an alarm. However, claiming that the act was necessary for an effective treatment, he overpowered and raped her.
