In a first-of-its kind initiative, energy audits and star ratings of the Delhi government buildings will be carried out by the state’s power department and the Centre’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
The move is aimed at promoting energy efficiency and conservation among various government departments, according to the power minister Satyendar Jain.
Under the initiative, power saving options will be suggested for the Delhi Secretariat, the Legislati-ve Assembly, DTC headquarters, Guru Teg Baha-dur Hospital, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, ISBT (Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Kashmere Gate) and Varunalya complex of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
The decision was taken at a meeting convened under the chairmanship of Mr Jain earlier this week. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the power department, health department, PWD, Delhi State Industr-ial and Infrastructure Co-rporation Limited, Ener-gy Efficiency Services Limited, BEE and DJB.
During the meeting, the power minister emphasised on the huge power-saving potential in air conditioning units, chillers, space cooling and heating areas. He said that considerable savings can be achieved through time of day based usage of electricity and differential tariff.
Mr Jain said there is a lot of scope of energy saving in hospital buildings and asked the power department and the BEE to lay special emphasis on them.
After the energy audit and baseline star rating exercise, Sukesh Jain, secretary power, said the concerned government departments will implement the recommendations of energy auditors in a time-bound manner.
