Eligibility test must for Delhi University admissions: Vijay Goel
The BJP’s Rajya Sabha member, Vijay Goel, on Tuesday demanded an eligibility test should be held for admissions to the Delhi University’s undergraduate courses on merit basis to prevent mass cheating
The BJP’s Rajya Sabha member, Vijay Goel, on Tuesday demanded an eligibility test should be held for admissions to the Delhi University’s undergraduate courses on merit basis to prevent mass cheating and copying in Class 12 examinations outside the national capital.
Mr Goel said that an eligibility test will address the rising issue of widespread cheating in Class 12th board examinations across Bihar and other states for admissions to the Delhi University. Mr Goel questioned whether the students studying in Class 12th and appearing for board examinations in Delhi would get justice.
Mr Goel met DU vice-chancellor Yogesh Tyagi on Monday and urged him that it was the right time for the varsity to take strict action against the students resorting to illegal practices such as corruption, cheating, presenting false marksheets and other malpractice for gaining admission to the university.
“There should be an eligibility test across the colleges in the DU, which the students need to pass in order to be eligible for admission to the university so that students like Ruby Roy and Sourav Shreshtha (from Bihar who controversially were unable to answer simple questions about their subjects in which they had topped the board examinations) can be kept out,” said Mr Goel.
The BJP MP clarified that a student may have been born in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, MP or Chhattisgarh, but if they gave their Class 12 board exams from Delhi, they would be considered a Delhi student.
