A woman councillor, supervising fogging in Pandav Nagar, was allegedly manhandled by a Delhi police constable late on Friday night. The constable, Rachit Kumar, was arrested the same night, but was later released on bail.
The woman, who is a councillor with the EDMC, said that at 10 pm, when she was supervising fogging in her municipal area, a police constable deputed in the security wing of a central minister, who was passing by on his motorcycle, abused her. When she shot back at him, asking him for the reason for the abuse, he twisted her arm and passed sexual remarks. The moment she raised an alarm to alert the public as it was late and the stretch was isolated, the policeman fled from the spot.
She immediately reported the matter to the police, who received a PCR call about the incident. A PCR reached the spot soon after, took the victim to hospital and arrested the accused policeman, Rachit Kumar, the same night.
“A case under IPC Sect-ion 354 A (making sexually coloured remarks), 323, 341 and 509 (intending to insult the modesty of a woman) has been registered on the basis of the complaint received. The accused policeman was arrested. We have ordered a thorough investigation into the case,” an official said.
The councillor said that around four years ago, the policeman was transferred from the area when she had complained about his corrupt practices with local vendors to senior police officials. “That was the reason he held a grudge against me,” she said.
