Power distribution company BSES on Wednesday announced plans to procure 700 MW of “green energy” for the city, in one of the largest such initiatives in the private sector.
The company said it has decided to procure both solar and non-solar power at under Rs 5 per unit through the “reverse auction” route to ensure an “extremely competitive” rate to benefit the consumers.
“This will open a new avenue of procuring power at competitive rates from renewable sources. The whole process is ultimately going to help consumers in getting cleaner energy at competitive rates and keep the retail tariffs low,” said a BSES spokesperson.
He said initially around 700 MW of “green” energy will be procured.
Also another power discom, in attempt to provide better customer experience during ongoing s odd-even restriction, has launched mobile customer care service to drastically reduce customers’ visits to its office using their personal vehicles.
The Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) mobile customer care van will provide resolution to general queries related to metering, billing, new connection, supply related problems and others. This initiative is also in line with TPDDL’s initiative which encourages consumers to opt for e-services.
During the mobile consumer service centre vans’ visits, which are Internet-enabled, consumers are encouraged to opt for e-billing, track connection details online and contribute in reducing carbon foot prints.
“It will not only add to the customer convenience but also empower them to take informed decisions. It will also take TPDDL more closer to customers and cut down on customers visits to TPDDL offices using personal vehicles resulting in reduction of vehicular pollution. As these vans are internet enabled, our customers can learn and register for e-service offering at their doorsteps,” said CEO and MD, TPDDL, Praveer Sinha.
Considering the overwhelming response during the pilot project, the TPDDL decided to take the initiative forward and will be organizing Mobile Consumer Care Centers visits on a weekly basis every Saturday in the North and North Western parts of Delhi especially in remote areas. The service will also be extended to industrial and commercial consumer segments soon.
