For the first time, the Delhi University Students’ Union elections will have option of Nota on the ballots. All the colleges will also constitute an election monitoring committee that will report any violation of the code of conduct.

The new election committees will also organise open house meetings with the candidates to apprise and sensitise them about the election rules.

The decision came after the Dusu advisory election committee held a meeting with the varsity’s interim pro-vice-chancellor, Prof. J.P. Khurana, on Saturday.

The most awaited elections of the varsity are due next month for which the students’ organisations, including the ABVP and the NSUI, have begun their election campaigns in order to mobilise students.

This year, the Dusu elections will be held in 51 colleges as the Bhaskaracharya College has been added to the roster. “All the colleges will have an effective grievance cell that will address all the complaints related to the violations of the code of conduct. Even the CEO’s office will constitute a monitoring committee and interact with the students. The Delhi police has also been requested to impound cars that move around in groups with banners and posters,” said the chief election commissioner for the polls, Prof. Diwan S. Rawat.

The varsity has been directed by the National Green Tribunal to ensure that no paper in the form of posters and pamphlets used for campaigning on campuses is wasted during the elections. The tribunal has also directed the colleges to enforce the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and take steps towards paperless canvassing and campaigning during the students’ union elections.
