The Delhi police has suspended 10 policemen of the northeast district after a probe found that illicit liquor supply was continuing in areas under their jurisdiction.

According to a senior police official, five policemen from the Nand Nagri police station, in the ranks of constable and head constable, were suspended on Wednesday while five policemen from the Bhajanpura police station were suspended on Friday.

Investigators said that the police received information about two cartons of illicit liquor being allegedly supplied and sold freely in Nand Nagri. Following this information, a probe was ordered by senior officers.

On the basis of the probe, five policemen from the Nand Nagri police station were suspended on September 28 after they were found not fulfilling their duties properly, said the officer.

“It was the duty of the policemen of the concerned police station to ensure and keep a tab on these elements. We initiated a probe and, on Wednesday, found that five policemen — one head constables and four constables— had not performed their duty. It was due to their lack of alertness that large quantity of illicit liquor was allegedly being freely supplied that we suspended them,” said a senior police official.

“Similarly on Friday, it was found that five police officers were not conforming to their duties. Based on this, these five police officials posted at the Bhajanpura police station were also suspended.”
