A Delhi police inspector, posted at Vijay Bihar police station in outer Delhi, on Saturday was arrested after a married woman committed suicide in north Delhi’s Sabzi Mandi area, leaving behind a complaint against the officer accusing him of “torture” and “harassment”.

The 33-year-old woman allegedly consumed poisonous tablets outside the Tis Hazari court on Friday evening. DCP (North) Madhur Verma said inspector Dinesh Kumar was examined and prima facie he was found at fault in the preliminary investigation. He has been arrested under charge of abetment of suicide on Saturday morning after being suspended from duty.

The police received information around 5.30 pm on Friday that a woman was found in an unconscious condition outside the Tis Hazari Court complex in north Delhi. She was rushed to a hospital, where she died during treatment.

“She was found in possession of a suicide note and a five-page complaint against inspector Dinesh Kumar, levelling serious allegations of torture and harassment. The victim in her note claimed that Mr Kumar’s torture compelled her to end life. “Kumar was examined and he was found at fault during preliminary investigation, following which a case under IPC Section 306 (abetment of suicide) was registered at Sabzi Mandi police station,” Mr Verma said.

The police has also come across details that the woman was married to a proclaimed bad character in Vijay Vihar area and Mr Kumar had allegedly thrashed him at the police station recently, following which he had to be admitted in hospital. However, such details are yet to be verified.
