Delhi: Man shot, injured in wedding gunfire

A man was shot and injured during celebratory gunfire at a wedding in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on Sunday night.

A man was shot and injured during celebratory gunfire at a wedding in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on Sunday night. Accordi-ng to the police, the injured, identified as Rajat Sharma, suffered a bullet injury in his leg. He was released from the hospital after preliminary medication.

The police said that they received a call at about 10.30 pm on Sunday night that someone had been shot at during celebratory firing at a marriage. “A team of cops rushed to the spot where they learnt that the victim had been taken to the hospital,” said a senior police officer, adding, “During questioning, it was revealed that the victim was dancing outside the venue — Fun City Mall — at CBD grounds when he was shot at.”

The police added that the person who opened fire has not been identified yet and they are interrogating the parents of the groom in connection with the matter. “We are asking them to name the person who opened fire as it seems that they are hiding it from us,” said the senior police officer, adding, “It is a serious matter as the firing could have led to fatality.”

The investigating officials said that they are also questioning the owner of the mall in the matter.

“We are reprimanding them as they allowed the guests to do celebratory firing,” said the investigating official, adding, “Local shop owners and eyewitnesses are also being questioned.” The cops said that a case under the Arms Act has also been registered at the Anand Vihar police station in connection with the matter and further investigations are on.

Investigating officials said that they would again question the victim as well. “We have not been able to question him properly as he is recuperating from his injury, but once he is in a good condition to respond to our queries, we will question him,” the investigating official added.
