Delhi government warns private schools of cancellation of DDA lease

Delhi government has warned private schools in the national capital of cancellation of their lease by DDA or land owning agency if they fail to send compliance reports for admissions to entry level classes in the past four years under the EWS category within 2 weeks.

A notice sent to the schools by the Directorate of Education (DoE) said, “The new academic session is going to start from April 1, therefore, chairpersons/presidents of such Societies/Trusts are hereby once again directed to admit 25 per cent children belonging to EWS category in their Nursery/Pre-Primary /Play schools/Creches in the academic session 2016-17. The schools are asked to submit compliance report for admission of EWS category for the last four years within two weeks. Non-compliance of the orders shall be viewed seriously and the same may be brought to the notice of DDA/Land Owning Agencies for cancellation of lease deed-of the land of the society or trust,” it said.

As per provisions of the Right to Education Act, 2009, all schools are required to reserve 25 per cent seats for students under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Group (DG) category.

In February, the amount of reimbursement to private schools for each admission was increased by the government to Rs 1,598 from Rs 1,290 under the two categories following complaints from the school heads about the amount being too less.

However, the government on Thursday following various complaints from parents that schools are demanding money for books and uniform from EWS students, warned them against doing so.

The government has allotted over 26,600 seats during the ongoing admission for entry level classes through computerised draws under the EWS category.
