The Delhi police has sanitised a portion of India Gate as part of security measures for a mega event which that will be organised on May 28 to mark the second anniversary of the government.

The Delhi police is conducting a series of mock-drills at the venue to check the alertness of the security forces ahead of the event. “Bomb disposal squads, quick response teams, emergency response vehicles, dog squads, fire tenders, ambulances etc. were kept in loop during the exercise, whose prime objective was to check the alertness of the security forces,” said a senior police official. He added that the police has made elaborate security arrangements at the venue.

The venue is under 24*7 surveillance. Police personnel in plain clothes are also guarding the area. Intelligence agencies are also on high alert because prominent VIPs and VVIPs will attend the function.

“Delhi police personnel will guard the venue. The event is not open to public, the entry will be only by invitation. Senior police officials are deployed to check the security preparedness,” said a senior police official. The traffic police said that a traffic plan would be prepared to keep traffic around the India Gate smooth during the event. “We have already deployed more policemen on various roads around India Gate to keep traffic smooth. If needed more traffic personnel will be deployed. The entry to the event is only by invitation, therefore, only selected people will attend the event, hence no traffic diversion at the venue is needed,” said a senior police official.
