Cops register case against Congress MP for ‘assault’

An FIR was registered against Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shadi Lal Batra at the Tilak Marg police station by a woman who alleged that the MP “sexually assaulted her” at his flat in South Delhi.

An FIR was registered against Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shadi Lal Batra at the Tilak Marg police station by a woman who alleged that the MP “sexually assaulted her” at his flat in South Delhi.

According to a senior police official, the woman from Haryana has accused Congress’ Rajya Sabha MP Shadi Lal Batra of raping her. The police has filed an FIR in this regard at the Tilak Marg police station.

The woman, who is a lawyer, in her complaint said that she was promised a job by the MP , who later invited her to his place and raped her. The incident had occurred on Saturday.

The woman alleged that the MP would often show off his power in the Congress and assure her that there would be no problem for him to get her a job. The woman also alleged that Mr Batra, 76, had threatened her against approaching the police.

According to the compl-aint, the woman was invited to the MP’s residence in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. Mr Batra, an MP from Haryana, allegedly spiked her drink and then sexually assaulted her.

A political veteran, Mr Batra enjoys considerable influence in the Congress. A senior police official said that facts of the complaint are being verified and the investigation is at a very nascent stage.
