The Delhi police’s special cell has recovered a consignment of 10 soph-isticated foreign-made pistols on Thursday.

After a brief shootout, the police arrested two gun-runners who smuggled sophisticated foreign-made arms from Pakistan, via Nepal, and recovered 10 pistols and 157 live cartridges from them near Indraprastha Park on Ring Road.

The accused, brothers Mohammad Rehan and Mohammad Qurban, residents of Khurja, were caught following a brief exchange of fire near Indraprastha Park on Wednesday night, said DCP (special cell) P.S. Kushwah.

The brothers were involved in smuggling sophisticated foreign weapons from Pakistan and supplied these weapons in Delhi and NCR. They were running their network by communicating with their associates through different Internet communication platforms, said the officer.

The arms recovered from them were .30 and .22 bore pistols. The .30 bore pistols were of Chinese and Russian make and two of the .22 bore pistols included a Walther (Germany) and Sig Sauer (USA).

About two years ago, the brothers had come in contact of one of their relatives involved smuggling of illegal foreign weapons from Pakistan via Nepal and joined him.

The duo had reached Indraprastha Park in an SUV to deliver the pistols and ammunition to one of their suppliers when they were intercepted by the special cell sleuths. The brothers resorted to firing at the police team. No one was injured and they were caught.
