The Delhi police has arrested a man and a woman for allegedly running a honey-trap racket to snare a hospital lab technician from East Delhi with help of a third woman and then abducting him for ransom.
The gang had kept the victim, Rajneesh Singh, confined for several days in Ghaziabad and had de-manded Rs 10 lakh from his family to ensure his safe release, said the police.
Interestingly, it was five days after his purported disappearance that the victim’s brother Parveen Singh had approached the police to complain that Rajneesh was missing since August 6. A case of abduction was registered and a probe was started.
“During investigation, we found that the victim’s family members got a ransom call for Rs 10 lakh from kidnappers who were usi-ng the mobile phone of the victim. His family members got scared and deposi-ted Rs 20,000 in the account of victim. The team immediately put the call on surveillance. On the basis of clues and technical surveillance, the team arrested Santosh Kumar (37) and a 40-year-old woman,” a senior official said.
During interrogation, both the accused purportedly confessed of their involvement along with two more associates, both of whom are absconding.
