The Delhi Congress on Friday criticised chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for shifting his focus to the Punjab Assembly elections when the city is facing a severe water crisis, shortage in revenue collections and when it was gearing up for the presentation of the Budget.

Addressing a press conference, Delhi Congress chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee also demanded a CBI inquiry into the massive cement purchase scam in the BJP-led North MCD, as the vigilance inquiry ordered by the corporation was just an eyewash to sweep the corruption scandal under the carpet. Municipal councillors Satbir Sharma and Abhishek Dutt were also present at the meet.

Ms Mukherjee said though there was a severe water shortage in Delhi, Mr Kejriwal was least bothered about the plight of the locals and his government’s “unrealistic target” of revenue collection has fallen short by '3,000 crore, which has clearly exposed the “lies of the city government.” She claimed Mr Kejriwal “ran away to Punjab to spoil the politics there after one year of misrule and mis-governance, which has stalled all the development work in the capital.”

She said Mr Kejriwal had totally failed to deliver the promises he had made to the people before elections.
