Children’s books major crowd-puller at book fair

Colourful pop-up books of nursery rhymes, folklores, DVDs of bedtime stories and unique interactive devices for quick learning are major crowd-pullers at the ongoing Delhi Book Fair this year.

Children from the age of 2 to 15 years can look for their favourite characters and stories from a wide variety of books, both in English and Hindi, which are not only appealing but also seek to stimulate their imagination and inculcate reading habits.

Grolier, a US-based publishing house has a range of ‘Talking story books’, which focus on developing speaking and writing skills in children. “All the products at Grolier have been developed to boost a child’s reading capabilities as well as speaking skills in a fun way. It is your in-home learning expert which is not only interactive but helps a child to learn independently,” said Sunil, an educational consultant at the publication.

‘Talking Pen’, worth Rs 19,000, is an interactive audio support device and is among the most popular products at the stall. According to Sunil, the pen incorporates 40 levels of fully illustrated books, with other engaging content to motivate a child to read.

Another favourite among children is the ‘Disney English’ DVD where their favourite characters narrate stories, songs, and games from classic films by the mass media company.

Pop-up song books, themed short stories, international bestsellers such as “Beauty and the beast”, “Angry Birds-Wars”, Dorling Kindersley’s series of illustrations and graphics are available at throwaway prices of Rs 50 and Rs 100 at Mukta Book Agency’s canopy. “This is the first time we are selling international publishers at such cheap rates. Possibly every cartoon comic, and midnight story is available here,” said the representative at the stall.
