CDR leak: Detained UP cop arrested

The Delhi police crime branch on Tuesday formally arrested Uttar Pradesh constable Narendra Kumar for illegally obtaining call data records and selling them to detective agencies.

The Delhi police crime branch on Tuesday formally arrested Uttar Pradesh constable Narendra Kumar for illegally obtaining call data records and selling them to detective agencies.

The arrested constable, posted at the office of inspector-general of police in Kanpur district, was detained by the Delhi police on Sunday and had been brought to Delhi for further investigation.

“During interrogation, Kumar confessed that he had procured CDRs of several mobile phone numbers as per the requirements sent by Jaiveer Singh Rathore, an owner of detective agency in South Delhi. In return, he took money from Rathore for providing the CDRs,” said Rabindra Yadav, joint commissioner of police (crime branch). He added that Kumar would be confronted with Jaiveer Singh Rathore for investigation.

“During investigation, the police found involvement of several other detective agencies functioning in the city, such detective agencies, in the case and these will be rounded up for further investigation,” added Mr Yadav.

The police is also going through bank accounts of Kumar to establish money transactions between him and Rathore. The police discovered that Kumar had amassed more than Rs 20 lakh by supplying the CDRs to the detective agencies.
