Strict measures are being implemented for granting entry passes for vehicles in the Delhi Assembly premises.

A year after the AAP government allowed entry of mediapersons to the Delhi Secretariat only after 3 pm, the Delhi Assembly has changed rules to grant annual passes for media vehicles parked inside the Assembly premises. From now, only accredited journalists, TV reporters and other staff accompanying OB vans will be issued passes for parking their vehicles on specific days during which the House is either in session or for attending any press conference. No annual parking facility will be provided to any mediaperson. The personal staff of the parliamentary secretaries, PAs to MLAs and canteen staff will not be entitled to any parking labels.

Also, television channels have been now been refused permission to place cameras for coverage of the House proceedings as the Assembly Secretariat has made arrangements to provide live footage.

As per the new parking criterion, only five officers posted with the lieutenant-governor’s Secretariat will be provided with parking labels. The Speaker will have powers to provide two parking labels to any legislator for his or her personal use only. The Speaker will also be entitled to issue other 15 parking labels. While the deputy speaker too will enjoy the same rights, but he or she will be entitled to issue only 10 other parking labels. Both the Leader of the Opposition and the chief whip will have powers to issue only five such labels. Legislators will be issued two parking labels for their personal use.
