Office bearers of the Swaraj Janta Party (SJP) do not support the “action” of their party president Brijesh Shukla, who hurled ink at Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia outside the lieutenant-governor’s residence on Monday.
The Swaraj Janta Party, founded in 2015, is located in the narrow lanes of Shiv Vihar of Karawal Nagar. The road to the party office is full of choked drains, waterlogged roads and thick smoke emanating from burning garbage everywhere in the locality. The party office is situated on the ground floor of a two-storeyed building where Brijesh Shukla lives with his mother, wife and two children.
“We know Brijesh Shukla for the last several year. He is politically active in the locality and keeps pitching civic issues to the authorities concerned and ministers. He is a nice man. Our locality is on the verge of vector-borne diseases,” said Ramesh Negi, a neighbour.
Brijesh’s children got to know about their father’s “action” from a TV news channel when they returned from school. “We were unaware of any such happening. Like every day, Papa dropped us at school and went to visit his sister-in-law with our mother at GB Pant hospital. His sister-in-law is undergoing treatment for chikungunya. He left mother at the hospital and then went for some personal work,” said Brijesh’s son.
He has a property business in the locality and operates it from the party office. He had contested the 2012 Assembly elections unsuccessfully as an Independent candidate.
K.G. Chauhan, a founder member of the SJP and general secretary of the party, said that they were clueless about the action taken by their party president.
“We met on Sunday evening and discussed other local issues,” said Mr Chauhan.
