Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta has urged the lieutenant-governor to give orders for vacation of the government offices occupied by the 21 parliamentary secretaries, who were last year appointed by the Delhi government and are facing legal action as their appointments were in violation of the Constitution.
Mr Gupta also alleged that the Delhi government has misused its power by installing these posts to pacify their own people. He also demanded the recovery of entire amount of money spent on the said officers.
“The BJP will raise this issue in the Assembly session starting Tuesday. A delegation of the BJP MLAs will also meet the Delhi L-G to apprise him of the entire matter. The appointment of the parliamentary secretaries has been done in an arbitrary fashion without seeking the L-G’s consent. The constitutional experts have called it a gross violation while the BJP had objected to it since the beginning,” said Mr Gupta.
According to Mr Gupta, the AAP government has accommodated its party MLAs in some or other government committees or departments and are providing them with financial benefits. This is the same government that keeps on lamenting about lack of funds for developmental work. The have deployed the same excuse to deny the three municipalities their outstanding dues.
“On one hand, the Delhi government refuses to pay thousands of doctors, paramedical staff, nurses, teachers, DTC staff and contractual workers their due payments, forcing them to go on strikes. While on the other hand, the government is disregarding the Constitution, the office of L-G and the administrative rule book to provide financial benefits to its party MLAs,” added Mr Gupta.
