A week before the implementation of second phase of car-rationing scheme, the Delhi BJP has urged the city government to postpone the implementation of the second phase of the odd-even scheme by a month to May 15 to 30.

The Delhi government should change the trial period from later half of April to the later half of May when most educational institutes will be closed, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said.

Except hollow advertisements, the Delhi government does not seem to have any concrete plans for effective implementation of odd-even, Mr Upadhyay said.

The odd-even scheme trial in January “did not” help reduce pollution in the city, but since the government is “insistent” on its re-trial, it should at least offer solutions to problems of people, he said.

“Over 25 per cent schoolchildren travel by private vehicles and the government has no plan as to how to give relief to those driving vehicles to drop and pick up the students from their schools. Similarly, the later half of April has many competitive examinations and implementation of the scheme from April 15 will pose problems before the students,” added Mr Upadhyay.
