In a bid to avoid confusion arising due to the multiplicity of the agencies, the Aam Aadmi Party government has given the sole responsibility of developing the unauthorised colo-nies to the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastru-cture Development Corporation (DSIIDC).

In a bid to execute the development of the over 1,600 unauthorised colonies in the national capital, the AAP government had in October last year asked the Public Works Department, DSIIDC, irrigation and flood control department and the three BJP-led municipal corporations to carry out the task.

However, with the order leading to a lot of confusion due to the multiple agencies involved in the execution of the project, the Delhi government has tasked the responsibility to the DSIIDC. The move is also pertinent, as the AAP had promised during the election campaign to remove the multiplicity of agencies leading to delay of projects and streamline the process.

An official said that in the wake of an order from the minister in order to avoid confusion due to multiplicity of authorities resulting in duplicacy of works, lack of uniform quality and standards in the maintenance and deve-lopment works, DSIIDC has been assigned as the sole agency for execution of all works in such colonies in future.

Besides, each executing agency (other than the DSIIDC), working in a particular unauthorised colony, has also been asked to prepare an account of development work carried out in all the unauthorised colonies (with colony-wise physical and financial status) and estimates developed for future work, he added. The AAP government has set aside Rs 800 crore this year for the de-velopment works, including the sewer system, wat-er pipeline, drains and streetlights.
