In order to avoid any violation of code of conduct in JNU during the student union polls, the varsity will not be conducting opinion polls in the campus.
A student of economics at the varsity, Ankita Hans, had written an application to the election panel seeking the conduct of opinion polls with a sample size of 500 by polling at different parts of the 1,000-acre campus. However, the panel rejected the application.
“The election committee has rejected the application to conduct opinion polls during the period when model code of conduct is in force. The publication of result of any public opinion polls or exit polls is likely to affect the unbiased exercise,” Ishita Mana, chief election commissioner for JNUSU polls said.
