All NDMC schools set to launch sanitation drive

The NDMC has launched a two-hour-long sanitation drive in its schools on Saturday under the “Swachh Bharat Mission”, an initiative of the Prime Minister.

The NDMC has launched a two-hour-long sanitation drive in its schools on Saturday under the “Swachh Bharat Mission”, an initiative of the Prime Minister. About 28,000 students of 60 NDMC schools, 1600 teachers, 400 non-teaching staff and NDMC work force consisting of 2860 “safai sewaks”, 3901 “beldars” participated in the sanitation drive under the direct supervision of 14 circle incharge in the New Delhi area.

Besides, the horticulture staff pruned trees in the school premises, while the electrical and civil engineering staff had carried out electrical and building maintenance work as well during the drive. This was informed by NDMC chairperson, Naresh Kumar. He said the council was aiming at the upkeep of school buildings and surrounding areas and at inculcating the habit of cleanliness and develop civic sense and social responsibility among the young generation. The chairperson informed that the sanitation drive would be a permanent feature of the education curriculum and it will be undertaken on a regular basis on the first Saturday of every month.

Students will be motivated to spread the message of positive aspects of sanitation and cleanliness among others. Five schools would be given prizes and certificates of merit based on their performance.

Mr Kumar said that it was a positive step taken by the council for transforming New Delhi area into a global benchmark.
