Delhi University students under the banner of Aisa have been sitting on a hungerstrike since Friday demanding construction of new hostels in the varsity.

The hunger strike, named Hostel Satyagraha, which is being held in front of the faculty of arts, North Campus, includes around 30 students from different colleges.

Aisa is also running a campaign named “A Room of My Own” since almost a month.

“The issue of hostel facility and accommodation is a very serious one. We are fighting for this since a very long time. Students come to study in DU from very remote areas of the country and they have to spend '10, 000 just for a single room in private accommodations. The students should get at least house rent allowance until more hostels are built,” Aisa secretary Aman Nawaz said.

Agreeing with Mr Nawaz, DU Aisa president Sudhanshu Shekhar said that at this point of time the issue of hostel for students is very important for them. “We will fight the Dusu elections keeping in mind the same issue,” he said.
