A day after the Delhi high court verdict gave primacy to lieutenant-governor in the administrative affairs of Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday said that people of the national capital can knock L-G Najeeb Jung’s doors if they have any issue with civic amenities as powers have now been vested in his hands.

Terming him the “guardian of scams and scamsters”, the party vociferously attacked Mr Jung over his alleged inaction in the CNG fitness scam, DDCA case and an FIR filed against Reliance by the AAP government during its first stint in the city.

“From today onwards, I urge people that if they have any civic amenities issue related to power and water then they should go to the lieutenant-governor because after the high court judgment all powers lie with him now. We expect that all the work that the Delhi government was doing for public good and our battle against corruption will now be carried forward by the L-G with the same commitment and honesty with which it was performing,” AAP leader Ashutosh said.

In a huge setback for the Kejriwal government, the Delhi high court had on Thursday held that the L-G is the administrative head of National Capital Territory and the AAP dispensation’s contention that he is bound to act on the advice of council of ministers was “without substance”.

Stressing that the party “humbly differs” with the high court judgment, Ashutosh questioned what would be role of the chief minister, his Cabinet and the elected representatives in such a scenario. “We hope to get justice in the Supreme Court the way it gave in the case of Arunachal Pradesh (reinstating the Congress government),” he said.

Dubbing Mr Jung a “guardian of scam and scamsters”, Ashutosh asked how many times Union finance minister Arun Jaitley was summoned in connection with the alleged irregularities in Delhi District Cricket Association.
