The finance wing of the AAP government has raised objections for granting promotion to Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik’s father, Sukhbir, who works as a conductor in the Delhi Transport Corporation. The finance department has raised objections on the ground that granting promotion to her father will have financial implications for which prior approval of lieutenant-governor Najjeb Jung was mandatory. The government wanted to promote her father without getting prior approval from Raj Niwas.

A source in the Aam Aadmi Party government said that once the lieuten-ant-governor approves the promotion, then only the government can move further.

Soon after Sakshi won the freestyle wrestling bronze medal in the 58 kg category at the Rio Olympics, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had recommended promotion for her father, saying that the entire country was praising him for her success as she had won the medal at a time when the whole country was waiting for it eagerly.

He had said that Sakshi’s father had send his daughter to a non-traditional game and supported her, which will change the mindset of the people towards the girl child.
