The BJP and the AAP traded charges on failure to control dengue last year in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Monday as the main Opposition, the Congress party, staged a walkout.

The BJP, which is in majority in the NDMC, blamed the AAP government for blocking funds and the AAP claimed that the civic body is politicising the issue. In a special meeting called to discuss preventive measures initiated to control vector-borne diseases, with special emphasis on dengue, it was decided that apart from preventive measures special attention would be given to spreading awareness about these diseases.

Initiating the discussion, former mayor Ravinder Gupta said that the Kejriwal government has created a crisis-like situation by stalling funds meant for the civic bodies. “Despite severe financial crisis, we managed to handle the situation last year that witnessed the worst outbreak of dengue till now. Even during a routine check, our team found mosquito breeding at the wall of Mr Kejriwal’s residence,” added Mr Gupta.

AAP MLA Som Dutt said it is joint responsibility of the corporation and the government to control the disease.
