The Delhi BJP on Saturday alleged that the Delhi government’s erroneous policy is encouraging corruption in admissions to nursery schools. Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said only 130 private schools in the city, out of 2,500, have been able to fill seats due to the Delhi government’s highly misconceived and erroneous policy for nursery admissions.

Mr Gupta claimed that in the rest of the schools the seats lie vacant even when parents in need are running from pillar to post to get their wards admitted to nursery schools. “The administrations of the private schools are coming out with ways to force anguished parents to give donations for their child’s admission,” said Mr Gupta, adding that the negligence of the Delhi government has given private schools an opportunity to exploit parents and extract donations.

Mr Gupta alleged that those parents who want their children admitted to schools of choice are being shown the door by officers of the education department as well as the managements of private schools. The Delhi government has ordered that the academic year start from April 1, 2016. However, the Delhi State Public School Committee has said that it is impossible to complete the admission process by March 31. Therefore, in accordance with the order of the high court, the last date for admissions has been finalised as July 31, 2016.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly has demanded that Delhi lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung put an end to the blatant loot by such schools.
