In a unique initiative, the Delhi Transport Corporation on Monday introduced its new Aam Aadmi Bypass Express bus service that will ply on the 40-km route from Uttam Nagar bus terminal to Sarai Kale Khan ISBT, connecting three National Highways — NH-1, NH-10 and NH-24. City transport minister Satyendar Jain said 20 buses, of which 10 will be air-conditioned, will run on a signal-free elevated corridor from Vikaspuri to Wazirabad on a trial basis.
“Buses on this route will be operated via Vikaspuri Mod, District Centre (Janakpuri), Outer Ring Road up to Wazirabad Outer Ring Road, Majnu Ka Tila, ISBT (Kashmere Gate), Yamuna Bazar, under Geeta Colony Flyover/Vijay Ghat, Raj Ghat and then Ring Road up to Sarai Kale Khan ISBT. Both, AC and non-AC buses will be operated on the route with regular fare,” an official said.
Mr Jain also said the AAP government intended to run feeder buses on narrow roads and normal buses on large ones to ensure there is no traffic congestion due to the plying of these vehicles in the national capital. Asked about the BJP questioning the AAP government over the name given to the service, Mr Jain said there should be no politics on this issue as it has been launched to cater to the common man.
