A 92-year-old retired government officer and his servant were attacked and robbed by two unidentified men in southeast Delhi’s posh Greater Kailash Part-1 area on Friday. Both the victims have been admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 2 pm when Khairati Lal Khanna, along with his servant, was in his residence in N-Block. Two men knocked on the door and said that someone has sent a bouquet for Mr Khanna. When Ram Chandra, the servant, opened the door, one of the person overpowered him by pointing a pistol and managed to enter inside.

“After the duo entered the house, they locked the door from inside and overpowered Mr Khanna too. When Mr Khanna tried to raise an alarm, he was brutally thrashed by them. The duo robbed Rs 40,000 cash and jewellery. The duo then fled from the spot after locking the door from outside,” a police official privy to investigation said.

Mr Khanna became unconscious due to the attack. Ram managed to inform Mr Khanna’s son who was not present at the time of the incident. Mr Khanna’s son runs a garment shop in the Chandni Chowk area. The police received a call at around 2.30 pm and a team rushed to the spot. The duo were immediately taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre where they are being treated.

Mr Khanna’s wife lives with their daughter, who stays in Los Angeles.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered. No CCTV cameras were installed outside the residence and some of the cameras that were installed in the colony were found to be non-functional, said the official.
