The Delhi police has recovered 900 stolen iPhones worth Rs 2.25 crore in South Delhi on Wednesday.

The accused, Mehtab Alam and Arman, have been arrested said additional DCP-I (south) Nupur Prasad.

Kalam Singh, a driver with Beetel Company in Okhla, had left the company office for Mudita Express Cargo located in Dwarka with a consignment of iPhones in a truck.

When he reached near Rajokri Flyover, a gang of robbers threw a packet of red chilli powder on the driver and his helper. It caused irritation in their eyes and they stopped the truck to wash their hands. Two men attacked them then with a knife and held them hostage inside the truck on September 13.

The attackers took hold of the truck with the consignment of iPhones and drove away the truck towards a ‘shamshaan ghat’ through unmetalled road where cartons of iPhones were transferred to a small truck. Later, robbers dumped them at the underpass of Dwarka Link Road.

During the course of investigation, the crime scene was recreated and it was found that three routes could have been used by the accused. The CCTV footages of all the three routes were scanned and the truck with the consignment was spotted in the CCTV footage on the route to Sector-E, Pocket-2, Vasant Kunj. While the truck was seen entering and leaving the area, the small truck was only seen entering the same, said Ms Prasad. Later, Malkhan Singh, who used to provide drivers to the company for transportation of goods, told the police that two of his drivers, Bhola and Pradeep, had left their jobs two weeks ago, said the officer.
