9-year-old raped by plumber in her house

A nine-year-old girl was raped at her home allegedly by a plumber in north Delhi’s Roop Nagar on Monday. The plumber was caught by the girl’s brother who raised an alarm and overpowered him with the help of neighbours when he attempted to flee, the police said.

The accused, identified as Om Prakash, was an employee of the girl’s father who sells pipes from his hardware shop in Roop Nagar, said a police officer. On Tuesday, Om Prakash was produced before a city court and was sent him to jail.

The police added that the girl is a Class 4 student at a government school in the locality. On Monday afternoon, she was alone at home as her parents were out for work and the brother was also away. Om Prakash reached her home on the pretext of meeting her father. Despite the girl informing him that her father was away, Om Prakash insisted on coming inside and waiting for him.

“When the girl denied him the entry, Om Prakash pushed the door and gained entry to the house. He gagged her mouth and forced her on the bed. The man threatened to kill her if she resisted or raised any alarm. He disrobed her and raped the girl after which her brother arrived and caught him red-handed,” said the officer, adding Om Prakash was beaten up by locals before being handed over to the local police.

The girl was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent a minor surgery. Her condition was said to be stable. A case under the relevant sections of Pocso Act and IPC was registered against the accused at the Roop Nagar police station.
