18-year-old dies in road accident, two injured

An 18-year-old teen died while two others were injured when the scooter they were travelling on was hit by a speeding vehicle at Akshardham flyover in east Delhi early on Sunday.

An 18-year-old teen died while two others were injured when the scooter they were travelling on was hit by a speeding vehicle at Akshardham flyover in east Delhi early on Sunday.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Suraj, was going somewhere on his scooter at about 3.30 am on Sunday. “When they reached Akshardham flyover, a speeding unidentified vehicle hit the scooter from behind,” said a senior police officer. “Other commuters informed the police about the incident and they were rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where Suraj was declared brought dead by the doctors.”

“Two of his friends, identified as Badal (26) and Sanjay (19), were admitted to the hospital and they were released after medication.” All of them were studying B.A. (Hons) journalism from a private university. The police said Suraj’s body was sent for an autopsy and a case under relevant sections of the IPC was registered at the local police station. Suraj lived with his family in School Block locality of Shakarpur in east Delhi. Investigating officials said that they are trying to identify the vehicle which hit the scooter.
