A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped in the hospital building by a nursing orderly late on Sunday night. The victim was at the government hospital to take care of her ill brother.

The accused, identified as 24-year-old nurse Manjeet, was handed over to the police after being caught red handed by some people. He has been booked for rape and under the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (Posco) Act.

The alleged incident took place in the Delhi government’s Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri. The victim’s brother was admitted to the hospital a few days back for a breathing problem.

The family lives in a rented accommodation in nearby Mangolpuri and their father works as a mason. The victim is the eldest of seven siblings.

Since one of her other brothers also happened to be ill on Sunday, her parents had requested her to take care of the boy in the hospital. So, she stayed behind for the night.

Around midnight, when her brother’s condition began to worsen, she decided to call for help. “As the girl was walking in the corridor, the nursing orderly allegedly pulled her into his changing room and raped her,” said a senior police officer based on the girl’s complaint.

No one was in the hospital’s corridor from which the girl had been pulled into the changing room. The police said there was no other person in the room where the alleged crime took place.

While committing the rape, Manjit had allegedly forced the girl into silence by threatening to kill her if she raised an alarm. However, once she was released after the alleged abuse, she revealed it all to a woman seated in the same ward as her brother.

The woman informed some other persons at the hospital who ensured that Manjeet did not escape from the spot. Someone informed the police upon which a team arrived at the hospital and caught the suspect.

The girl was sent for medical examination. Reports of medical examination are awaited. Manjeet was booked based on the statement of the victim who is being counselled by NGOs.
