The national capital recorded more avian deaths on Sunday with 10 ducks found dead at the Hauz Khas deer park which the Delhi government described as a “sign of worry.”

The national capital recorded more avian deaths on Sunday with 10 ducks found dead at the Hauz Khas deer park which the Delhi government described as a “sign of worry.”

Delhi animal husbandry minister Gopal Rai also confirmed that three crows, that were found dead in the Sunder Nagar area, succumbed to the H5N8 avial influenza strain and that the total number of avian deaths stands at around 58.

The Aam Aadmi Party government has now decided hold a “coordination” meet at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday to tackle the H5N8 virus outbreak. Mr Rai said a ten-member special team has been set up for anti-virus spray. In order to strengthen the immunity of birds, multi vitamin and garlic shreds will be added to their food, Mr Rai added. During his visit to the South Delhi park on Sunday, the minister said that he has instructed the authorities to ensure that cleanliness in the park. He said the water sample from the Deer Park lake will be sent to a laboratory in Bhopal for testing.

Along with officials of the Delhi Development Authority and expert doctors, Mr Rai took stock of the situation at Deer Park. However, the government has been maintaining that there is no threat to human beings from the bird flu scare in the national capital. In the wake of avian flu, the government has formed a 23-member committee which will work towards controlling the virus from spreading in the city.

Seventeen birds died at the Deer Park on Saturday, while 10 more were found dead during the inspection on Sunday.
