Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid have had let their thoughts known on what they feel about the current crisis that has hit Indian cricket. Being veterans of this sport, these two legends were pained to see how Indian cricket had been blown away in the wake of the spot fixing scandal. They were fearless to put their point across and hoped for better days in Indian cricket, in the administration mainly. Much was expected of former players who are at administrative posts to raise their voices and made their feeling known for the betterment of Indian cricket. Or take actions which turn the tide for the betterment of Indian cricket. However, what we see is eerie silence on their parts. Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath, president and secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, haven’t gone public on their thoughts on the spot fixing scandal and the following tussle for power at the top level in the cricket board. Weren’t they were appointed to put the interest of cricket and cricketers first rather than just being part of a bigger set-up and playing along with it MS Dhoni and other cricketers kept quite because they didn’t want to risk the wrath of BCCI and the people at its helm. After all, all that the current cricketers want is to represent India as much as possible at the international level, lest one wrong slip from their tongue cut their career short. But what these two veterans – Srinath and Kumble -- have to fear Is it too important to be in the good books of BCCI and its people to keep one’s own interest alive and kicking At least, Indian cricket is safe in selection issues, as a former cricketer Sandeep Patil, chief selector, adopted the horses for courses policy and brought Indian cricket back on success path, on the cricket field. Players high on reputation, but low on output were shown the door, while youngsters, whenever given the chance, proved their worth, leading to healthy competition for places in the Indian team. What Indian cricket lacks now is a strong administrative hand whose tough actions can deter any players from doing anything which is not in spirit of this gentleman’s game. Veteran cricketers were expected to work at this and bring sanity in Indian cricket at the administrative level. But unfortunately, Srinath and Kumble haven’t been able to achieve much on this scenario. If former cricketers at the administrative level will not speak of the ills plaguing Indian cricket, then who else will. If not, Indian cricket will continue to suffer in silence.
