West Indies mankad Zimbabwe out of Cup

West Indies U-19 mankaded the last Zimbabwe batsman in the final over to progress through to the quarter-finals of the ongoing World Cup in Bangladesh.

Three runs were required by Zimbabwe off the last over as West Indies required a wicket and Richard Ngarava was given run out in controversial circumstances after bowler Keemo Paul mankaded the batsman.

Zimbabwe managed to score 224 runs after West Indies put up 226. Paul, who was bowling the over ran through the crease and did not enter his delivery stride before breaking the stumps. Non-striker Ngarava was with his bat on the line while he was standing a couple of steps out of his crease. West Indies appealed as the two on-field umpires asked the fielding side if they wanted to continue with it, and after confirming, the third umpire was brought into the picture.

He found the batsman just on the line, ending Zimbabwe’s outing. The African team had to win in order to make the quarter-final.
