I didn’t want to carry on, says Shah

Speculation was rife that Niranjan Shah was dropped from the BCCI vice-presidents’ list suggesting the veteran administrator from Saurashtra was not in the good books of N. Srinivasan. But Shah on Saturday clarified that not seeking an extension was his decision. “My term as VP is over and I do not want to extend it anymore. There is nothing more to it,” Shah told this newspaper. The West Zone vice-president is set to be replaced by MCA president Ravi Savant. Shah was one of the very few BCCI officebearers who expressed views in the aftermath of IPL spot-fixing scandal. He had termed it “disgraceful”. But Shah said his decision had nothing to do with the IPL saga. “I make it clear that my decision of not extending the term is completely irrelevant to any of those that happened as a result of the fixing row. I just do not want to continue in the role,” added Shah. Shah says there is no opposition for N. Srinivasan in the Board. “Srinivasan has got the majority. There is no point in contesting the elections.” Even if Srinivasan gets re-elected on Sunday, he will not be able to take charge until the Supreme Court gives further order. “The SC has given its word. I do not want to make any comment on it. Let’s wait and see what happens,” Shah said.
