Mumbai: Railway authorities have replaced costlier headphones with cheaper ones as as many as 337 original headphones were stolen from the Mumbai-Goa Tejas Express, India's first locally-made luxury train.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation takes care of amenities in the luxury trains and will make arrangements for low-cost headphones for passengers who travel on the route, according to a report in Hindustan Times.

"The Indian Railway had introduced the systems to provide a flight-like travel experience for passengers," the HT report said. An IRCTC spokesperson who did not tell the exact number of missing headphones said the railways has purchased new 1,000 headphones costing Rs 30 each.

The railways had bought original brand headphones worth Rs 200 each for India's first luxury train. It has a total of 990 seats and 13 passenger coaches and also an executive coach with "more comfortable" seats with neck and leg rests.

"The system has preloaded games, movies and songs, besides FM channels. For the first four trips, headphones of a leading brand were handed over to passengers before the start of the journey," the report said.
