Jio yesterday extended till April 15 its March 31 deadline for existing users to sign up for Prime.

Mumbai: It’s raining offers and freebies for over a 100 million Reliance Jio customers. The telecom arm of Reliance Industries yesterday extended its March 31 deadline for existing Jio users to sign up for Prime membership.

From April 1 onwards, Reliance Jio will start charging for providing unlimited mobile data and free voice call services launched on September 5 last year. Its Happy New Year offer started from January 1 came to an end on March 31.

Customers will require to sign up for Prime with an annual fee of Rs 99. Besides, they will be given an option to chose from a variety of monthly recharges depending upon their usage.

With the extension for Prime, Jio announced a ‘Summer Surprise’ to retain its strong customer base and woo more number of subscribers. The company now has a target of adding another 100 million users in a few months.

According to a report published in The Economic Times, latest offering by Reliance Jio will further intensify "a brutal price war being waged in India's telecom market". 

Under the latest 'Summer Surprise’ offering, a Jio user will first need to recharge with Rs 99 sign up amount for Prime and then get monthly recharges based on their day to day needs.

Jio has indicated that if a user becomes member of Prime scheme before extended deadline of April 15 and gets a recharge of his or her choice done then there will be no need to get a recharge for three months or till July-end.

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani announced the Prime scheme on February 21 for existing Happy New Year users. The Prime membership is valid for one year.
