In the first quarter of 2019, BMW sold 2,822 cars and its Mini brand sold 160 cars.

In Q1 2019, the BMW 5 Series and the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo contributed strongly to BMW India sales during the first quarter.

Pune: BMW, India's second biggest luxury car maker, on Friday reported its highest-ever first quarter sales growth by 19 per cent to 2,982 cars in India for the three months to March 2019.

In the first quarter of 2019, BMW sold 2,822 cars and its Mini brand sold 160 cars.

These results come on the back on a strong performance in CY2018, when BMW Group India sold 11,105 vehicles (including Mini), registering 13 per cent year-on-year growth.

Its motorcycle division, BMW Motorrad also sold 597 motorcycles during the first quarter of the year.

BMW competes with market leader Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo and Lexus in India.

"BMW Group India is on a growth path. Closing 2018 with the highest sales ever, the momentum has been successfully carried forward into 2019 by registering the best Q1 sales till date," Hans-Christian Baertels, President at BMW Group India, said, in a statement.

The company will continue its focus on maximising performance, bringing best-in-class products to the Indian market and exceeding expectations on each and every service that is offered, he said.

"We are confident that the growth strategy for BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad will yield even higher results in the coming months and we will continue to grow the luxury vehicle market in India," Baertels asserted.
