The BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol unit churns out 105PS and 138Nm which is similar to the BS4 model. It can be had with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic. The petrol unit also comes with Maruti’s Smart Hybrid tech for enhanced fuel efficiency. It must be mentioned that the recently launched Ertiga CNG still uses the BS4-compliant 1.5-litre engine. The CNG variant’s 1.5-litre unit develops 92PS and 122Nm and comes in a sole VXI trim. It boasts a fuel efficiency of 26.20 kmpl.

On the other hand, diesel variants of the Ertiga are likely to face the axe. Maruti Suzuki will discontinue all diesel models from its portfolio post the implementation of BS6 emission norms in April 2020. This is due to the high costs of upgrading diesel engines which in turn drives up prices of the model. The Ertiga comes with a 1.5-litre diesel unit that churns out 95PS and 225Nm. It can be had with a 6-speed MT only.

Apart from the Ertiga, other petrol Maruti models yet to get BS6 updates are the Ciaz, Alto K10, Ignis, Baleno RS, Celerio and the WagonR 1.0-litre. We expect the Ciaz to get the BS6 update next as it shares its 1.5-litre petrol powertrain with the Ertiga.

Also, Maruti will soon launch the premium XL6 MPV that is based on the Ertiga. It is slated to launch on August 21 and will be sold through the manufacturer’s premium Nexa outlet.
