Maruti Suzuki’s dominance in the affordable hatchback space could get even more prominent with the introduction of the much-anticipated S-Presso. The new hatchback is based on the Future S concept that was first unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo. It has been spied testing on our roads and its launch is expected by October this year.

From the spy images, the S-Presso looks more like a beefed up Alto on stilts. It gets a chunky cross-hatch like design with butch styling. The design is in line with what we saw in the Future S concept. While the test mule was heavily camouflaged, we know that the S-Presso will feature a tall seating position and higher ground clearance. The interiors too will take cues from the concept and will feature a digital speedometer and a centrally mounted infotainment system with a new circular design (as seen in the latest Minis).

Under the bonnet, the S-Presso is expected to be powered by the 1.0-litre petrol motor from the Alto K10, which is BS6-compliant now. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox along with the option of an AMT. It will also boast of safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors as standard.

Expected to hit Maruti showrooms this festive season, the S-Presso will take on the Renault Kwid. It will be retailed through the Maruti Arena channel in India and is expected to come with a price tag of around Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom, India). With its all-new design and competitive pricing, the S-Presso could prove to be another hot seller from Maruti Suzuki. Not only that, it will also lay the foundations for the next-gen Marutis coming to India.
