Hyderabad: Tata Motors hopes that Nixon, a compact SUV, which is to be launched by the end of 2017, will help the company expand its market presence as it fills the missing segments in its portfolio, an official said.

Speaking following the launch of Tata Tigor in Hyderabad, Tata Motors design head Pratap Bose said, “Tata Motors doesn't have a presence in all segments. Compact SUV is one of them. Our aim is move up a place to third spot by 2019. So, we have plans to expand our portfolio accordingly.”

Tigor, which was the third car to be launched in the FY17, will also sport the impact design.

On being asked how the Tiago and Hexa have been performing, Mr Bose said: “Tata Motors has already delivered 50,000 of the 80,000 Tiago’s booked so far. Hexa, too, has seen a positive response and we have delivered around 2,000 vehicles since we started delivering.”

Tata Motors, currently, has a 5 per cent market share and hopes the designs that have already been approved to push their share higher

Tigor, which was also launched in Bubhaneswar on Tuesday, will aim to fill the gap between a premium hatchback and a compact sedan, according to Mr Bose.

Tata Motors' market share in passenger vehicles segment grew by 0.64% last year.

The company sold 1.53 lakh units in 2016-17 against 1.25 lakh in the previous fiscal.
