‘Genius’, ‘Masterclass’, ‘Classic’ were just some of the responses that came Virat Kohli’s way on Twitter after the star player played a match-winning knock of 82* of 51 balls. But sadly, those weren’t the only reactions it stirred up. Once again, Virat’s former ladylove Anushka Sharma became the target of trolls, with the only difference being that she was attacked this time for Virat’s success.
It was around the same time last year and coincidentally against the same opponents and also in a World Cup, that Anushka first faced fire on Twitter for Virat’s performance.
With many trolls attacking her on Twitter, Anushka’s presence at the stadium was blamed without reason for Virat’s no-show. But while the then together couple had taken it in their stride the last time around, Virat this time, proved his class outside the field as well by coming out strongly against the trolls, who also included some prominent names and even news organisations.
Virat hit back strongly against the trolls on both Twitter and Instagram. Here’s what Virat had to say about the whole incident:
“Shame on people for trolling @AnushkaSharma non-stop. Have some compassion. She has always only given me positivity (sic),” he wrote on Twitter.
He also posted on his Instagram profile and wrote in the caption, “(Sic) Shame on those people who have been having a go at Anushka for the longest time and connecting every negative thing to her. Shame on those people calling themselves educated. Shame on blaming and making fun of her when she has no control over what I do with my sport. If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity. This was long time coming. Shame on these people that hide and take a dig.” feedback.age@gmail.com
