Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday slapped a notice on actor Shahid Kapoor after an inspection revealed that the swimming pool at his ground-floor apartment in Parineeta building at Juhu Tara road has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Apart from the actor, the civic body also found two other mosquito-breeding spots in the same building and served notice on one of them.
BMC conducted the inspection of the building after actress Vidya Balan, who stays in the same building, was diagnosed with dengue on Friday and advised 10 days’ bed rest. Though no mosquito-breeding ground was found at Ms Balan’s house, three were found in the building. Besides Mr Kapoor’s ground floor house, two houses on upper floors were found to be breeding grounds for aedes aegypti larvae. Subsequently, the civic body slapped a notice on Mr Kapoor and another resident Meera Patel. BMC has undertaken similar inspection drives across the city.
When BMC officials reached Mr Kapoor's house for inspection, his manager refused them an entry. \"We waited for over an hour to be allowed an entry. However, when refused, we had to call the nearby police. Only after the police arrived, we were allowed to inspect the actor's house. Rainwater accumulated in the swimming pool was breeding larvae,\" Rajan Naringrekar, BMC's insecticide officer. After collecting samples from the fourth and ground floors of the building, BMC slapped the two notices under section 138B of the MMC Act. The matter under this section is heard by the metropolitan magistrate and the penalty may be upto Rs 10,000.
Rajan Naringrekar, BMC’s insecticide officer said, “We waited for over an hour, and then we called nearby police, who came and let us access Kapoor's house for inspection.” Some rainwater accumulated in the swimming pool was breeding the larvae.
