The kind of films or roles that Irrfan Khan has done in the past rarely warranted for the actor to hum a song. But that’s not the case with his next film, Dam Damaa Dam. For the first time in his career, the actor has lip-synced to a song—written by Irshad Kamil and composed by Vishal Bhardwaj.

“If you look closely, I am still not in sync,” says the actor adding, “The song addresses various issues, is hard-hitting and we want it to grow on people. I have never been a part of music sittings before for my films, but this time I got a chance to do that.”

His wife Sutapa, a co-producer for the project seems to agree with her husband’s self-criticism. “I don’t think he has done it well,” she adds with a chuckle.

As for the director, Nishikant Kamat, he feels differently. “Irrfan told me that this was the first time he was lip syncing for a movie. I was quite surprised to know this because throughout the process, not for a second did it look like this was his first time. We are all extremely happy with how the song has turned out and we have been receiving a lot of positive response for it.”
